I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Oklahoma. I also hold a National Certification in Counseling (NCC). I own a private practice in the Oklahoma City area and I am an ordained minister through Universal Life Church.
I am a female business owner, entrepreneur, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. I like to cook and garden. I enjoy traveling and visiting quaint coastal towns while searching for mid-century pieces. I'm a lover of film, music and noir novels. I like to read about nutrition and health. I'm a big advocate of holistic healing and finding preventive remedies.
I was born in a small town in Oklahoma. I moved to the Oklahoma City area as an adolescent, graduated high school and married at a young age. After raising my two beautiful children, I decided to continue my education. I pursued my undergraduate and graduate degrees when most people were well into their professional life or starting a second career.
My goal throughout college was to eventually start my own business. I opened the doors to Safe Harbor Counseling, my private practice as a mental health professional in 2000. Because of my own personal journey toward self discovery I knew I wanted to help others find their own path toward healing.
I am also very passionate about the movies. Modern technology has made it easy to stream your favorite movie or TV series in the comfort of your own home. I am as guilty as the next person, but I truly love the experience of viewing a movie on the big screen. I decided to incorporate my love of movies and my passion for helping others into a more creative counseling technique as opposed to traditional therapy.
This creative process turned into my desire to recommend movies with helping themes I named Cinema Counseling. Cinematherapy is a form of supplemental therapy, like art, music and dance therapy. Cinematherapy was fathered, defined, trademarked and popularized by Dr. Gary Solomon, the first person to introduce using movies as therapy.

Professional Experience
I have a Master's Degree in Family and Child Studies, with an emphasis in Chemical Dependency from the University of Central Oklahoma. After receiving my masters I received my licensure as a professional counselor. I have 20 years experience working with individuals and families in the areas of chemical dependence, physical and sexual abuse, domestic violence, women's issues and adoptions.
I previously worked with a prevention program helping families avoid the crisis of DHS involvement by providing stress techniques and identifying and utilizing appropriate resources and social supports. These families were able to learn healthy ways to deal and cope with stressful situations.

Payment is accepted online via PayPal (www.paypal.com), a secure electronic credit and debit card web based service. You may also pay by cash or check if residing in the Oklahoma City area.
Insurance
I am not on insurance panels and am considered an "Out of Network" provider. I can provide an invoice that you may submit to your insurance company.
Discounted Services
I do not offer sliding scale fees. Sliding scale fees require income verification. Due to confidentiality, I do not feel comfortable asking for proof of income. I will make a referral if you are interested in a sliding scale fee.
Cancellation Policy
I require a 24 hour cancellation policy for face to face sessions provided in my Oklahoma City area office. I do not offer a refund for pre-paid sessions. I will however reschedule you for a make up session.
